Sustainability

Shaping the future, one step at a time

As the world progresses towards a greener future, United Chemicals is playing its part in providing sustainable solutions to the industry. We have spent several years focusing on the the production of environmentally friendly products. Throughout the years, we have diminished our usage of restricted substances and focused on improving value added chemicals by using renewable sources.

- Polymers

As the world progresses towards a greener future, United Chemicals is playing its part in providing sustainable solutions to the industry. We have spent several years focusing on the production of environmentally friendly, VOC-free, Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) compliant and REACH-compliant products. In an attempt to reduce the environmental impact of leather, United Chemicals developed a new range of polymers for leather.

New Generation in Wet-End

The polymer range yields high-end leathers for garment, upholstery, footwear and double-face articles. These polymers enable tanneries to leave less of a mark on the environment and make their end products more sustainable. By using fewer chemicals, the tanneries can get more from their process. United Chemicals promotes this chemical range as FOSMASOL, or ‘For Smart Solutions’. Those solutions include Polysol, ProWhite, Polysoft and Polytan – chemicals that are extremely versatile and adaptable for the needs of the tanneries.

Doing Less With More

The Polysol range includes polymer-based degreasing and wetting chemicals, increasing the wastewater quality of the tanneries since they are VOC-free and natural chemicals.

For the tanning process, United Chemicals offers ProWhite. This novel tanning system can be used in both chrome-free tanning and metal-free tanning systems. ProWhite can be used without the need for the pickling process, thus leathers tanned with ProWhite do not need salts and have lower acid consumption. Compared with regular tanning operations, ProWhite Tan yields a simple process method, and reduces the time and energy required for tanning.

In the fatliquoring process, Polysoft polymers give fuller and elastic leathers due to their increased molecular weight. Thanks to the chemical structure of Polysoft chemicals, the fatliquoring process yields lighter leathers and higher mechanical properties. Polysoft products also help to give a more homogenous dyeing and retanning effect.

As for the retanning, Polytan gives fuller and elastic leathers. The chemicals of the Polytan range are highly ecological, do not include salts, and have lower biological oxygen and chemical oxygen demand. In addition to being environmentally friendly, the polymer range increases the organoleptic quality and the mechanical properties of the articles produced.

ZDHC MRSL Compliant – and more

We encourage our customers to take this step towards the future and share our vision on reducing the environmental impacts of chemicals and a transparent supply chain. Tanneries can help to form a more transparent supply chain by assisting in fulfilling the ZDHC 2020 goals.

If you want to be a part of this future, a technical team is always more than willing to help you during this transformation.

- ZDHC MRSL

United Chemicals on full commitment to ZDHC MRSL

The ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme focuses on hazardous chemicals in the textile, leather and footwear product life cycle. It is a global program that leads the industry in becoming environmentally aware, to improve the supply chain, and promote transparency.

The ZDHC intends on eliminating the hazardous chemicals by banning them or establishing a limit for their intentional use through the Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) & Conformity Guidance. More information about the ZDHC Roadmap can be found on the official website at https://www.roadmaptozero.com/

We focus on environmentally friendly products and sustainability in the productions together with ecological and environmental commitments. Every company involved in our supply chain, from production to delivery is urged to share our ideology.

United Chemicals fully supports the ZDHC Roadmap to Zero Programme and helps the tanneries to remove their MRSL substances. For more information on our ZDHC MRSL compliant products, please contact us.

- REACH Compliance

REACH is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. It applies to the manufacture and import of chemicals into the European Union and requires that manufacturers, importers and customers are aware of the health and safety requirements of the products being imported.

At United Chemicals, we take pride in harmonizing our activities with REACH regulations and directives. We register our products in accordance with the REACH regulations and only with certified REACH compliant suppliers.
